Employee Spotlight – Krissy Walker

Krissy has been with Vital Decisions since 2016, she quickly moved up as a leading Senior Engagement Specialist and joined our Client Services team in 2021. Krissy attended West Chester University for undergrad, and earned her master’s in Counseling Psychology from Cairn University. She’s a South Jersey native with 2 beautiful children, a son age 17 and a daughter who’s 12 years old. She also has two (some might say mismatched) fur babies, a Terrier and a German Rottweiler whom she loves taking on nature walks and hikes. She shared that her biggest accomplishment was graduating with her master’s degree as a single mom of two kids. She dreams of becoming the CEO of her own brow/lash boutique while still being a valued member of the Vital Decisions team.

☀  How do you find meaning in your work?

Although I am no longer delivering direct clinical services, I believe in the work we do. I see the value of what we do and how important it is, especially coming from a family that hasn’t really planned. I want to show up for our clients to help them avoid some of the personal experiences I’ve had in my own family.

☀  What brought you to Vital Decisions?

After working in the drug & alcohol field I wanted to challenge myself in a different area. And around that same time, my grandmother was on hospice which was a wonderful experience and that was a catalyst in opening up my world to Advance Care Planning.

☀  What makes Vital Decisions different than any other organization you’ve been a part of?

Hands down the culture. I have never worked anywhere else where the culture is even remotely like it is here. Vital Decisions sets themselves apart with the community they offer –  the values, understanding, and support for personal things that come up for you outside of work. They show appreciation for their employees in the events they host, scavenger hunts, holiday parties, recognition events etc.

☀  What are some of the things that have made you successful in your role or in transitioning to this current role?

Having a very supportive team around me. Being encouraged to share my own ideas and thoughts and raising my voice. The training I have received thus far, both before this role and currently have also been a tremendous benefit.

☀  What advice would you give to colleagues looking to progress at Vital Decisions?

Keep a positive attitude. Be willing to try new things, verbalize your interests with your supervisor, look into Professional Development opportunities and be able to take constructive criticism and feedback. Trust the process and know with time, training and support, the growth will come.

I am so happy that Krissy joined the Client Services team! Her years of experience working as a Specialist bring a valuable perspective to the team as well as to the Health Plans she manages. After not even 6 months, Krissy is already presenting at JOCs and conducting trainings. Krissy has such an infectious energy that she energizes those around her and she always brings enthusiasm and dedication to her work.
Krissy brings out the best in all of us. Her approach to life and work is to believe in what’s possible and create a path to get there. She chooses how she shows up for others – and leaves a lasting impact on clients, health plans, and colleagues alike! She inspires me daily.

Krissy is such a joy to work with and literally always has a has a smile on her face (even via Zoom)! Krissy is an asset to the client relations team because of her extensive knowledge of Vital Decisions, prior role as a Specialist and relationship building skills. She faces each new challenge with a positive attitude and is always willing to learn. Thanks for being my Clinical Account Executive ‘Partner in Crime’ Krissy! Learning pivot tables and animating PowerPoint slides has never been more fun!
Krissy’s personality is contagious! There is no other way to describe her as she lights up every room she is in. She is someone who always tries to maintain a positive attitude even through challenging circumstances. When she was a Specialist, she was able to connect to her clients really well and clients remembered who she was and the impact she had on them. She was easy to supervise and it has been my pleasure to be able to watch her grow and blossom from being her onboarding supervisor to now watching her shine in her new role in Client Services. She is truly a gift to the organization!

Krissy was a key player in my success as a Specialist. Her positive attitude, energy, and passion for what we do filled the room during our onboarding together 6 years ago. Her capacity for our clients and her professional drive are inspiring and naturally push those around her to be better. She’s a natural fit for her role now, it’s incredible to think of all the lives she’s touched and how much she’s accomplished during her career at Vital Decisions thus far.
